Guest Speaker:
Paddy Hooper – Back due to
popular demand! He was the most popular speaker that we had before we moved to Spice Merchant, he was brilliant, he did the most interesting presentation and so I would encourage you to come along if you can as some of his findings are amazing!
Paddy has been metal detecting for a few years now and it has
changed his life. This hobby has allowed him to meet so many amazing people and
share so many brilliant moments with them. Metal detecting is not just about
the finds which is what most people would think. It is also about the places
you go and the people you meet.
During his three years of metal detecting he has found some
great things, from bronze age ribbon gold later acquired by the British museum
for it’s historical significance, to early 20th century cap badges
fallen from soldiers in WW1. Some of his favorite finds have been at times he
didn’t expect anything good. It could be a miserable rainy day, the signals few
and far between and then you dig up the best thing you’ve ever found from an
unspectacular signal.
This hobby has changed his
life and he hopes you get to experience it too and have as much fun as he does.
It really is amazing to pull something out of the ground that was once
treasured by someone and then treasure it yourself like they did possibly
hundreds of years ago. It’s exciting to think about how long it has been in the
ground for, how long has it been lost and who actually lost it.
His name is Patrick and I’m
proud to walk through fields, searching for metal, proud to reveal and save
England’s history, proud to be a metal detectorist.

**Live Laugh Love Ladies Club Night - Speaker - DogsnHomes **
We are so lucky to have DogsnHomes taking time out during their busy schedule to come and speak to us, they do a huge amount of work to re home dogs who are desperately in need of loving and caring new homes.
Who Are They?
DogsnHomes are a dog rescue and rehoming charity, based in Fleet,
A real treat coming up!
For July, we have Paul Kerensa as our speaker!
Paul Kerensa is a comedian, writer,
broadcaster, lecturer and radio historian, working in TV, radio, print and the
stage.
As a stand-up, Paul has performed over 3,000
gigs ranging from The Comedy Store and Jongleurs to Montreal Comedy Festival,
via a dozen Edinburgh Fringe solo shows. He won ITV's Take the Mike Award
and was a finalist in the BBC New Comedy Awards, Wilkinson
Sword’s Cutting Edge of Comedy and The Daily Telegraph Open
Mic Awards. He’s known as a warm, friendly, creative performer, often
mixing music, props, gags and games into his act. Previous stand-up shows have
included a time-travelling tribute to Back to the Future and a re-enactment of
the first BBC broadcast, as well as regular sets of gags and stories.
Paul has co-written various TV and radio
comedies, including BBC’s Miranda, Not Going Out, Top
Gear, Buble at the BBC, TFI Friday and
ITV’s Royal Variety Performance, as well as for CBBC. On
the radio Paul is a regular contributor to BBC Radio 2 Breakfast Show’s ‘Pause
For Thought’ and has presented BBC Radio Sussex/Surrey’s Sunday
Breakfast. Paul’s books include People’s Book Prize
finalist Hark! The Biography of Christmas and a range of
children’s books. For the stage, Paul’s children’s play Let
My People Go had a sell-out one-night-only at the Royal Albert
Hall.
His latest project retells the BBC’s origin
story - via stage show, podcast (The British Broadcasting Century) and
forthcoming novel. His research has uncovered various forgotten ‘first firsts’
of broadcasting, especially forgotten female pioneers, from the first DJ to the
first dramatist, on whom Paul is writing a biography and a dramatised script.
As a radio historian, Paul has appeared on the BBC Six O’Clock News and
Radio 4’s The Media Show, as well as presented at academic
conferences.
Previous corporate clients include Lloyds TSB,
the British Council of Offices and BMW.
“If
I were a gag thief, I’d be shinning up his drainpipe.” - Milton Jones
“A
brilliant writer, fantastic communicator, deep thinker and philosopher but most
importantly, extremely decent bloke.” - Chris Evans
“Top
comic, top writer, top bloke!” - Lee Mack
“Very
funny, very clever… wildly talented” - Chortle
