Wednesday, 21 January 2026 – Maggie Moone – Singer & Entertainer 

We welcome to our first event for 2026 and 1st Anniversary of our Live Laugh Love Ladies Club, Singer, and Entertainer Maggie Moone!  

Maggie has had the enormous pleasure of sharing the stage with so many talented artistes and musicians during the 80’s decade of fantastic light entertainment. Through the realms of television, radio and theatre Maggie emerged as a highly accomplished singer and versatile entertainer who was a regular guest on about every major light entertainment TV show during the 80’s and 90’s. To name a few, Morecambe & Wise, Live from the Palladium, Mike Yarwood in Persons, Des O’Connor Tonight, Give Us a Clue, and Blankety Blank. Maggie will be best remembered for her role in the UK version of “Name That Tune” hosted first by Tom O’Connor and then by Lionel Blair.  

A highlight of Maggie’s career was being nominated alongside Madonna, Wham! and Cliff Richard by the British public as the “UK’s Most Popular Singer” in the 1986 TV Times Annual TV Awards. She also recorded her very own TV special for Grampian Television entitled “Maggie.” 

Maggie will be telling us about her showbiz career and life in general, which has been quite varied and exciting with videos of past television appearances.

Wednesday, 11 February 2026 – Nicola Pengilly – The Work of the RSPCA West Dorset Branch and Taylor’s Rehoming Centre 

We welcome to our February Live Laugh Love event Nicola Pengelly, Branch Secretary and Trustee of the West Dorset Branch of the RSPCA and Taylor’s Rehoming Centre. 

Nicola will share stories about the work in rescuing and rehoming animals including cats, kittens, rabbits, guinea pigs and other small “furries.” Nicola has been a long-time supporter of the branch since moving to Bridport in 2003. She adopted her first cat from Taylors in 2010 and a kitten in October 2025. Nicola has a life-long passion for guinea pigs and had her first one aged five and currently has 10 rescued ones. In November 2023 Nicola became a Trustee of the Branch and is now the Branch Secretary. Nicola is passionate about the work of Taylor’s Rehoming Centre and the good it does to give abused and abandoned animals a better chance in life. 

Nicola will also be bringing a hamper to Raffle in which tickets will be sold at £1.00 each, so donations will be much appreciated.

Wednesday, 11 March 2026 – Reg Pengelly – “Thomas Hardy and the Well-Beloved" 

We welcome to our March event Reg Pengelly, who is a volunteer Tour Guide with the National Trust at Hardy’s Birthplace and Max Gate. Reg has published two books about Hardy’s novels and is a member of the Thomas Hardy Society. 

Reg’s talk will cover relevant aspects of Hardy’s life that resonate with his story telling and, in particular his relationship with women.  

Thomas Hardy remains one of the finest poets and authors in the English language. In his day he was the most highly paid author in the world. His novels and short stories are set in the fictional region of “Wessex,” and most are set in Dorset. His characters are based upon people he knew, many from his own family but some were based upon a variety of women that he was attracted to. 

Copies of Reg’s book “Hardy PDQ” will be available at a discounted price of £10 (cash only please).

Ella Hibbert, British Sailor - “First British Women to Complete Solo Voyage through the Northern Passage” 

We welcome to our first Late Lunch Afternoon Live Laugh Love Ladies Club Event, Ella Hibbert. Ella is a British sailor who made history in 2025. In a world-first voyage Ella travelled alone across 10,000 miles (about 16093.44 km) of sea to highlight the impact of climate change in the Arctic by becoming the first British woman to sail solo through the fabled Northwest passage. Her groundbreaking voyage not only marks a historic achievement but also shone a spotlight on how rapidly climate change is reshaping the Arctic. She would also be fundraising for two charities, Polar Bears International and Ocean Conservancy. 

Ella had set out to attempt a pioneering sole circumnavigation of the Arctic Circle, aiming to highlight how rapidly sea ice is retreating due to climate change. Ella braved sea ice, polar bears and freezing gale-force conditions in her 38ft yacht Yeva. 

While she successfully navigated the Northwest passage alone Ella also discovered that climate change in not only melting the ice but creating new and dangerous barriers,  Unpredictable storms, shifting pack ice, and thousands of loose “bergy bits” (broken fragments of sea ice) have made navigation increasingly hazardous, particularly in poor visibility. 

Her voyage was further complicated by gear failures, forcing her to make unscheduled stops in Iceland and Greenland early in the expedition. Now with new ice already forming in Russia water and the polar night approaching, experts advised her that it would be too dangerous to attempt the Northern sea route. Instead, Ella would overwinter Yeva in Alaska before resuming her voyage in the summer of 2026. 

Hear about Ella’s sea journey expedition story, and despite the hardships, the voyage has also brought moments of wonder. Ella has captured striking photography and videos of Arctic wildlife including polar bears and bowhead whales, and was warmly welcomed by communities in Iceland, Greenland and Canada and the camaraderie amongst other high-latitude sailors that she met along the way.
